Tamborine Mt Natural History Association:

Is an independent community based volunteer association, which has been supporting the appreciation, protection and preservation of the natural environment of Tamborine Mt since 1975.
Conservation:
We have a bird habitat revegetation project; we participate in regular SEQ catchment water monitoring; we are members of Richmond Birdwing Recovery Network, Gliders in the Spotlight, Echidna Watch and the Stockroutes Coalition. We are the lead agency for Alberts Lyrebird survey. We participate in campaigns that preserve wildlife including wildlife friendly fencing and safe netting. We direct financial support to Wildcare and care of injured wildlife. We maintain an extensive biodiversity database
Advocacy:
We monitor, comment, lobby and prepare submissions for a range of issues that effect the local environment.
Bird Group:
We hold regular meetings and walks; we contribute the Bird Atlas; we have produced a CD - Birds of Tamborine Mountain
Bushwalking:
We hold regular meetings and walks; we are affiliated with Bushwalking Qld and Bushwalking Australia and can participate in their activities
National Parks:
Our inducted QPW volunteers assist NP activities; we have developed a self-guided NP walk with QPW; we are affiliated with NPAQ.
Education:
Up till July 2009, we operated the Visitors Information Centre for 33 years; we publish brochures, articles, newsletters and magazines; we hold regular general meetings with a wide range of speakers
Community:
We support other local community organisations; we coordinate Clean up Australia on Tamborine Mt
Networking:
We are members of other environmental organisations and are represented on a number of advisory committees

Management of the TMNHA

The association is managed by a committee elected from its members, with a representative from Qld National Parks and Wildlife Services and the local Councillor as ex officio committee members.

Aims and activities

1. Regular activities are organized for special interest groups within the association, e.g. the Bushwalker Group and the Bird Group.
2. The association researches, designs and publishes track guides, nature check lists, brochures and produces the definitive “A Natural History of Tamborine Mountain”
3. The association publishes a bi-monthly newsletter.
4. At regular general meetings, speakers cover a wide variety of natural history topics.
5. We sponsor and participate in conservation projects on Tamborine Mountain, including the work of the Tamborine Bush Volunteers.
6. We monitor proposed developments and planning proposals and prepare submissions when appropriate.
7. We provide information and education for the public through the Information Centre.
8. We provide a reference library on natural history which is available to members and also to the local community and visitors.
9. We participate in a number environmental surveys such as the annual lyrebird survey and platypus count.
10. We provide financial support to Wildcare to assist with care and rehabilitation of injured wildlife.
11. We are represented on a number of committees including Canungra Training Area Environmental Advisory Committee and NPAQ Centenary Committee.
12. We are affiliated with NPAQ and associated organisations as well as being a member of a number of other environmental and wildlife organisations.
